Storytime with Shakespeare

Storytime with Shakespeare was our first community outreach program launched in January 2024.  What began with serving one branch of the East Baton Rouge Library System, has grown exponentially - serving multiple branches in EBR as well as expanding to other neighboring parishes.

Our goal is to expose young people to Shakespeare’s works at an early age to not only show that it is possible to understand his works if told in a fun and engaging way, but also that the plays’ themes are timeless and relatable even today.

Doing Good

At LSC, we know how valuable the public library is to our communities.  We are dedicated to upholding their mission to serve the community.  Seeing as how our primary audience members are school-aged children, we realized that oftentimes the only meal some of these children get is their school lunches.  That leaves a pretty big gap on weekends and school breaks.  Therefore, to help fight economic hunger, at every performance of Shakespeare in the Library, we provide a free snack bag, with a bottle of water and allergen friendly snacks, to every child that attends our performances.  Our children are our future, so we at LSC wish to nurture not just their minds, but also their bodies.
